There are several sections with dirt roads, mud and rocks, but with the comfort of our top of the line 4WD trucks you will be floating right across the rougher sections. We stay in mid and top hotels with focus on giving a unique experience in the best location. The trip is ideal for couples wanting to see the rural side of Colombia and has an interest in history and nature. Temperatures varies a lot from around 10 degrees celsius in high altitudes to 35 in the lowlands.

Fun Factor

Day 1: Fly-in to Cali. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet all participants for a group presentation and tour briefing.

Day 2: Cali to Popayan – We leave Cali early to make the most of the first day. We pass by the artificial lake created by the dam at La Salvajina on a super scenic road, then we cross into the higher mountains and visit Guambiano Indian village Silvia before arriving in the beautiful old colonial capital Popayan. We will have time to wander around town to see the sites before dinner.

Day 3: Popayan to San Agustin – After breakfast we get right out on the dirt. The mission is to cross the central Andean mountain range at the Purace volcano. With some luck we might see a snow capped mountain through the clouds. We stop at the hot spring in Coconuco for a dip and once we arrive to San Agustin we will make time to go enjoy the archaeological park displaying a variety of the ancient sculptors found on location. These sculptors are Easter island like and up to 7 meters tall and was there from Pre-Colombian times.

Day 4: San Agustin to Florencia – We stay in the high Andes for a while enjoying breath taking scenery and passing through tiny mountain villages and cloys forests. After lunch we start the decent into the Amazon basin. Our destination is Florencia the last bigger city on the edge between Andes and Amazon. Most of the day is in tight curves on paved roads.

Day 5: Florencia to La Macarena – Time to eat some dirt. We drive the eastern plains of the Amazon basin often through huge pottles of water and mud and go through what once was FARC stronghold area. Finally after many year this route is possible to do and we are some of the first to do it. We will arrive in the afternoon to the village of La Macarena.

Day 6: Rest-day Caño Cristales – Is a day with-out driving our trucks, but not lacking adventure as we cross the river in canoes to reach Caño Cristales national park aka the world most beautiful river or the river of 7 colours. We spend the day swimming and exploring the amazing area with waterfalls and small ponds and the main river in this spectacular natural wonder.

Day 7: La Macarena to Tatacoa desert – We leave La Macarena early to start our longest day of the trip. We return across the Amazon plains and cross the eastern Andes mountain range before reaching the Tatacoa desert in the Magdalena river valley. It s a desert in the middle of the otherwise entirely green country of Colombia and the desert conditions are created by the location between two Andes mountain ranges creating a so called rain shadow. We will enjoy a night under a clear sky watching the stars from our glamping accommodation in the desert.

Day 8: Tatacoa desert to Salento – Leaving the desert behind and the many interesting sites like the alien landing site, the labyrinth, the natural springs and much more, we continue north along the Magdalena river. After a few hours we turn west and cross the central Andean mountain range from Ibague to Salento in the coffee region. Salento is a traditional coffee growers village now popular with local and tourists, but still extremely charming.

Day 9: Salento to Cali – In the morning we will visit a working coffee plantation as we leave the beautifully located Salento. Then we return to the pavement heading back south towards the Salsa capital of the world Santiago de Cali for our last night on the tour. We pass by sugar plantations and cross the mighty Cauca river on a small barge before reaching our final hotel.

Day 10: Fly-out from Cali – Motolombia staff will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make arrangements. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.
