We use about 80% paved roads on this tour to make sure the ride is as comfortable as possible while still reaching off the beaten track destinations where no other means of transport will take you. There are minor sections of dirt roads, but with the comfort of our top of the line 4WD trucks you will be floating right across the rougher sections. We stay in the best hotels available with focus on boutique, smaller cosy and well located with all the services that you will need to enjoy your stay. The trip is ideal for couples wanting to see the authentic rural side of Colombia that due to its rough past has stayed almost untouched by tourism. Temperatures varies a lot from around 10 degrees celsius in high altitudes to 35 in the lowlands.

Fun Factor

Day 1: Fly-in to Cali. Motolombia staff pick you up at the airport and bring you to the hotel. Depending on what time in the day you arrive, we will meet all participants for a group presentation and tour briefing.

Day 2: Cali to Salento – We leave Cali early to make the most of the first day. We drive north through sugar cane plantations on the edge between the western Andes range and Cauca valley. The scenery is beautiful and the roads are good. We cross the Cauca river on a small barge and enter the coffee region near Armenia. We arrive to Salento in the afternoon in time to visit a working coffee farm and experience how much work goes into make a cup of coffee. We spend the night in a wonderful hotel near the main square of the village.

Day 3: Salento to Mariquita – Our route takes us further and further into the high mountains. Before lunch we stop at Santa Rosa de Cabal waterfall and hot springs and for those who want a supposedly healthy dip in the springs we will make time for that. Then we cross the central Andean mountain range at Las Letras around 4000 meters altitude before heading straight back down on the other side to the Magdalena river valley. Our night is spend in Mariquita in a beautiful rural hotel.

Day 4: Mariquita to Doradal – After breakfast we cross the Magdalena river valley and visit historic river port town Honda, the city of bridges and then we continue north towards Doradal. Doradal is famous for Pablo Escobar’s old ranch Hacienda Napoles where he among other wild animals kept hippos. We visit the ranch and the animals, the old drug trafficking run way and escape routes that he had created before settling in for the night in a nearby hotel.

Day 5: Doradal to Medellin – We return to the Andes mountains immediately and start climbing the beautiful and well paved highway pass to Medellin. A detour takes us to the colourful village of Guatape and where we climb the huge monolith rock El Penol. From the top is the most spectacular view of the Medellin Lake district. In the afternoon we reach our wonderful hotel in the heart of Medellin in time for a freshening up before a night of delicious dinning and fun.

Day 6: Rest-day Medellin – You can of course rest if you like, but Medellin has a lot to offer and we have a city tour planned. We will go try the metro that connects with a innovative cable car system that connects the mountain side barrios with the city center. We also visit the famous Colombian artist Boteros sculptors and museum for the dedicated and we wander around the city center of what was once Pablo Escobar’s stronghold.

Day 7: Medellin to Jerico – On the road again we continue in the mountains. Medellin is surrounded and we exit on the metropolitan on some tiny curvy and super scenic roads that lead us back into the Cauca river valley. We stop in the funny named Bolombolo and end up in the tiny little village of Jerico high on a mountain top. The village is true rural Colombia and a game of pool or just a drink on the main square is an awesome way to soak up the local atmosphere.

Day 8: Jerico to Pueblo Tapao – To get south from Jericho requires a huge detour or a section of dirt, but since we are prepared with the right cars for the job we of course do the dirt section going deeper into the mountains. We also get a chance to visit Jardin, another popular village in the area, by following the route. The day then continues with more mind blowing Andes mountain scenery as we get back on the pavement and we end the day in Pueblo Tapao with a well deserved dip in the swimming pool.

Day 9: Pueblo Tapao to Cali – In the morning we pack up and then hit the road. Destination the salsa capital of the world Santiago de Cali. But the tour ani’t over until the fat lady sings and we have a great route in store for the final day. We go into the western Andean mountain range and eat lunch a the man made lake Calima. The lake is a favourite weekend destination for Calenos (people from Cali) and all kinds of activities are available like kite surfing, jet skiing, horse back riding and much more. We return to Cali in the afternoon after an incredible drive around the most scenic places in the Colombian Andes mountains.

Day 10: Fly-out from Cali – Motolombia staff will take you to the airport in time for your flight. If you wish to stay longer we are happy to help you make arrangements. We strongly suggest visiting Cartagena for a day or two before or after the Motorcycle trip.

OBS: Itinerary may change without further notice due to weather, road- or any other condition that the operator or its guides feel will jeopardize the safety of the group or material.
